About CrateCodex

Who we are, the document-don't-gamble line that shapes the site, and how we handle odds, prices and Valve's imagery.

CrateCodex is an independent reference for Counter-Strike 2 cases. It exists to answer one kind of question well: what is actually inside a given case, how rarely each part drops, and roughly what the container is worth — all with dates and sources, and none of the roulette.

The one line that shapes everything

We document what is in cases; we do not push you to open them. That is the editorial spine of the site. We do not run a case simulator, and we do not frame opening cases as a smart financial move — because it is not one. We may cover case-opening and skin-gambling sites, but we never link to scams. Every case is priced so that its expected contents, minus the key, are worth less than you pay. Showing you the pool is honest; selling you the pull is not.

This is not only principle, it is context. Case mechanics are the subject of a New York Attorney General lawsuit filed against Valve on 25 February 2026, and Valve itself banned inventory-interacting sponsors — case sites included — from licensed esports events from December 2025. A reference site that quietly funnelled readers into case-opening would be part of the problem it claims to explain.

How we handle facts

Odds are fixed; prices are not, and we treat them differently. The drop odds we publish (79.92 / 15.98 / 3.20 / 0.64 / 0.26) are Valve's disclosed rates, unchanged since 2017 and corroborated by community unboxing data. Prices are always bands with the date we checked them, because this is a static site and a live number would rot within hours. Anything we cannot corroborate across sources is labelled as such.

Case contents and images come from the community ByMykel/CSGO-API dataset and from Valve's own item renders, used nominatively for identification. We curate — a few dozen renders that illustrate the pools — rather than cloning the entire catalogue.

How we pay for it

Some outbound links to marketplaces are affiliate links, routed through our /go/ redirects and disclosed on the page. They are all established places to buy or sell skins and cases. We never link to scams, and a commission never changes what we document. If you would rather not use them, buy directly on the Steam Community Market.
